EARTH SANGHA | JOIN US! DONATE TO ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION

You can join the Earth Sangha for as little as $35. Donations are tax-deductible. We will send you a receipt and include you in our newsletter mailings.

You Can Donate by Credit Card

To donate by credit card, just click through to our page on the Catalogue for Philanthropy web site. (The Catalogue page will open in a separate window so you won't lose your place here.) If you want to pledge your donation specifically to the Tree Bank, Wild Plant Nursery, Wild Seed Program, or the Native Arboretum, just enter the appropriate phrase in the "Designation" box of the donation page. (Don't worry—it will be obvious when you click the link above!) Since credit card donations entail a small fee for use of the credit card system, the Catalogue page will ask you whether you want to donate a little extra to cover the fee, or whether you want the fee deducted from your donation.

You Can Donate by Check

To donate by check, send a check for $35 or more, made out to “Earth Sangha,” to:

Earth Sangha
10123 Commonwealth Blvd.
Fairfax, VA 22032
U.S.A.

If your name and address are printed correctly on your check, there is no need to include anything else in your envelope. If they are not, please use the Join by Check Form. If you would like to pledge your donation specifically to the Tree Bank, Wild Plant Nursery, Wild Seed Program, or the Native Arboretum, just enter the appropriate phrase on the memo line of your check. (But please do not make your check out to one of our programs; please make it out to "Earth Sangha.")

Your Gift Is Tax-Deductible

The Earth Sangha is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity. Donations are tax-deductible. We will send you a receipt and include you in our newsletter mailings.

When you donate to our work in the Washington, DC, area:

$35 makes you a member of the Sangha and raises 11 native, local-ecotype trees or shrubs from seed to plantable size (2-year size).

$50 covers a family membership and grows 16 native trees or shrubs.

$100 plants about 300 square feet of meadow with native, local-ecotype grasses and wildflowers.

$500 provides minimal long-term deer-browsing protection to nearly three-quarters of an acre of saplings. (Without such protection, the saplings’ chances of becoming trees are very low.)

$1,000 pays for a year’s worth of invasive alien plant control over about 3 acres of meadow.

$5,000 covers two fall internships for our wild seed initiative, a crucial part of our effort to reestablish mid-Atlantic meadows.

$10,000 covers all direct costs for one year’s work on a major field site (such as our Native Arboretum or the Big Meadow at Meadowood).

When you donate to the Tree Bank, along the Dominican Republic – Haiti border:

$35 makes you a Tree Bank Partner and grows about 22 native Hispaniolan tree seedlings.

$50 grows about 32 coffee seedlings for our shade coffee program. (The program gives farmers an important economic incentive for preserving or restoring forest.)

$100 supports our Tree Bank Nursery assistantship for five weeks. (Training local young people in agroforestry is essential for the long-term viability of our project.)

$500 provides sufficient capital to enroll 1.2 acres as conservation easement in the Tree Bank Forest Credit program. (The program provides farmers with low-cost credit in exchange for preserving or restoring native forest on their lands.) By our conservative estimate, an easement of that size, in our project region, would sequester about 79.3 tons of carbon (at 30 years of forest growth). That’s as much carbon as there is in 291 tons of carbon dioxide.

$1,000 supplies the Tree Bank truck with fuel and maintenance for about 6 months. (Our truck is by far our most important tool but it costs a lot to run. It’s fitted for both regular gas and propane; the latter is usually cheaper than gas and burns cleaner, but it’s not always available. And all fuel costs on Hispaniola are high because all fuel has to be imported.)

$5,000 provides sufficient capital to enroll 12 acres as conservation easement in the Tree Bank Forest Credit program, and sequester about 793 tons of carbon (equivalent to 2,910 tons of carbon dioxide.)

$10,000 covers about one-third of all Tree Bank operating costs for one year.

Just a few examples of what your donation can do!

Rising Forests Coffee
Our Tree Bank farmers produce excellent shade-grown coffee. We're importing it to help support their farms—and to help them conserve and restore forest on their lands. We hope to have the coffee available soon. Please check back for coffee updates! You'll find them on our Tree Bank Hispaniola page.
Want to buy a T-shirt or a bumper sticker?

We have two kinds of Earth Sangha T-shirts:

Green or blue 100% organic cotton T-shirts with our fern logo and a caption reading: "Earth Sangha / Buddhist Values in Action."

Gray cotton-polyester T-shirts with "Earth Sangha" printed innocuously on the front (breast-pocket position) and a low-taste but amusing wild-grass design on the back. The design caption reads: "kiss my grass / it's native / plant local ecotypes. / earthsangha.org." (The picture shows the back.)

We also sell bumper stickers.

The T-shirts cost $17 including shipping; the bumper stickers cost $5 including shipping. If you are interested, please get in touch and we’ll let you know what’s in stock at the moment. Call us at 703-764-4830, or e-mail us at info@earthsangha.org.
