In an effort to keep our COVID-19 response congruent with Fairfax County Park Authority, we have cancelled all volunteer workdays at the Wild Plant Nursery and other field events effective immediately. In order to comply with Fairfax County Park Authority’s order to close parks to the public, we will no longer be offering our non-contact pick up order option at our Wild Plant Nursery. If you had placed an order with us for pick up that has not been fulfilled please contact mbright@earthsangha.org.

Please note that per Governor Northam’s executive order, we will continue to offer a free non-contact delivery option for members who live in Northern Virginia (Fairfax County (and towns therein), Falls Church City, City of Alexandria, and Arlington County).

Here’s how the delivery option will work (available to members, you can join on our donate page):

  1. Check out our inventory at www.earthsangha.org/wpnlist

  2. Email Matt at mbright@earthsangha.org with the plants you’d like (or just a photo of your site – we can still offer advice and help you choose plants remotely!) and include your address for delivery.

  3. Every few days, Katherine and I will load up our truck and the trailer with all the orders we can fit and make a delivery loop.

  4. We will drop the orders off in your drive way – please, no need to come out and greet us, just wave from a window! We want to keep this 100% zero contact.

  5. Once we delivery your plants, we’ll send you an electronic invoice you can pay online.

These procedures let us maintain a strong “social distancing” and means no one handles a phone, credit card, etc. while going through checkout. Before and after pulling an order our staff will vigorously wash our hands as per current Health Department guidance.

Thank you everyone for your support and we hope you all stay well! These will be challenging times for all of us, but our goal is to continue to provide our services to those in need and do our part to keep the many members of our community (staff, colleagues, donors, volunteers, and customers alike) safe and healthy.

Thank you all for your support. We hope to see you all once this has passed!

COVID-19 Volunteer & Plant Sale Info:

Conservation in Practice.

Founded in 1997, the Earth Sangha is a nonprofit public charity based in the Washington, DC, region. Our mission is ecological restoration as a form of socially engaged Buddhism. Although we work in the spirit of Buddhist practice, our volunteers come from a wide variety of backgrounds, and our work is secular and science-based.

In the DC area, we operate a volunteer-based program to propagate local native plants, restore native plant communities, and control invasive alien plants. Our Wild Plant Nursery is the region's most comprehensive effort to propagate native plants directly from local forests and meadows.

On the island of Hispaniola, along the Dominican Republic – Haiti border, we operate the Tree Bank Hispaniola, a partnership between the Earth Sangha and the Asociación de Productores de Bosque, Los Cerezos. The Tree Bank propagates local native trees, conserves tropical forest, and promotes sustainable agroecological practices.

Please note that our nursery and office addresses are different. Click here for directions to the Wild Plant Nursery.
